The Curse of Mpu Gandring

The Legend of Ken Angrok Chapter 2

The Permission

After hearing Dang Hyang Lohgawe explaination, Ken Angrok then asked his father, Father Dang Hyang, I will kill the akuwu and claimed his wife. The akuwu will surely die by my hand if Father permits me.

Dang Hyang Lohgawe answered, Yes, Tunggul Ametung will surely die by your hand, my son. But, I am not appropriate on giving you the permission. Because it is not a brahmanians act. The limit is your own will.

If so Father, may I have your permission to leave?, said Ken Angrok. The brahmanian answered, Where will you go, my son?

Ken Angrok answered, I will go to Karuman. There is a gambler named Bango Samparan who claimed me as his son. He really loved me. I will ask his consideration. Perhaps, he would agree. Dang Hyang Lohgawe then permitted Ken Angrok went to meet with his father.

In Karuman, Bango Samparan embraced Ken Angrok, because Ken Angrok never visited him for years. Ken Angrok told Bango Samparan about the nareswari of Ken Dedes, and his wish to marry Ken Dedes, after assassinating her husband, the akuwu of Tumapel, Tunggul Ametung.

The Kris of Mpu Gandring

Hearing the wish of his beloved son, Bango Samparan then said to Ken Angrok, I give you my permission, my son. But Angrok, the akuwu has a supernatural power. He would not get injured if you stab him with a normal kris.

I have a friend in Lulumbang, a famous blacksmith. His name is Mpu Gandring. His hand made kris is superb. There are no people with supernatural power who doubt the kris of Mpu Gandring.

I should go to Lulumbang then. Bless me Father!, said Ken Angrok.

In Lulumbang, Ken Angrok found Mpu Gandring was working in his smithy. He asked Mpu Gandring to make him a kris, in which should be finished within five months. Generally, to make a perfect kris, Mpu Gandring needed at least a year to finish it.

Because of Ken Angrok hesitation, Mpu Gandring finally agreed to finish it within five months.

The Curse of Mpu Gandring

Ken Angrok went home to Tumapel and met Dang Hyang Lohgawe. What took you so long in Karuman?, said Dang Hyang Lohgawe. I was stopping by to Lulumbang, Father, answered Ken Angrok.

Five months have passed, Ken Angrok remembered the deal he made with Mpu Gandring. He then went to Lulumbang to meet Mpu Gandring. Ken Angrok saw Mpu Gandring was still working with the kris that he was ordered.

Knowing that his kris was still being sharpened by Mpu Gandring, Ken Angrok became mad, grabbed the kris and suddenly stabbed Mpu Gandring. Ken Angrok put the kris on the stone basket, then the basket cracked into two pieces. He put the kris on the metal table, the table cracked into two pieces.

In dying, Mpu Gandring cast a spell on Ken Angrok, Hei Angrok! Soon, you will also die by the kris. Your son and grandson will also die by the kris. Seven kings will die by the kris. Ken Angrok felt sad after killing Mpu Gandring. If I become a king, may my glory also be the glory for all blacksmiths descendants in Lulumbang, prayed Ken Angrok in front of Mpu Gandrings dead body.

The Assassination of Tunggul Ametung

Arriving to Tumapel, Ken Angrok met with Kebo Ijo, another Tunggul Ametungs trusted servant. Ken Angrok and Kebo Ijo are a close friend. Kebo Ijo saw Ken Angrok carried an unfinished kris. He then asked Ken Angrok to lend him his new blunt kris.

Ken Angrok gave the kris to Kebo Ijo. The kris was always used by Kebo Ijo, because he loved to wear it on his waist. No one in Tumapel never saw Kebo Ijo left home without his new kris.

That night, Ken Angrok stole the kris from Kebo Ijo. By the will of the gods, Ken Angrok easily sneaked into the akuwus bedroom and managed to assassinate Tunggul Ametung. Ken Angrok stabbed Tunggul Ametung and left the akuwus dead body with the kris on his heart.

Early in the morning, the akuwus guard found his master died with the kris stabbed on his heart. They looked at the kris and knew that it was Kebo Ijos new kris. Kebo Ijo was then captured and stabbed also with the kris of Mpu Gandring by the guard. Kebo Ijo died.

The Singasari

The gods had already wished that Ken Angrok will become Ken Dedes soul mate. Infact both of them were felt in love to each other for so long. Everybody in Tumapel had no dare to talk about the affair between Ken Angrok and Ken Dedes.

Finally Ken Angrok married Ken Dedes, after the birth of Tunggul Ametungs son named Anusapati. From the marriage with Ken Angrok, Ken Dedes had given him four children. Three sons, Mahisa Wongateleng, Panji Saprang, and Agnibaya. The last child, a daughter named Dewi Rimba.

Ken Angrok was also had another wife named Ken Umang who had given him also four children. Three sons, Panji Tohjaya, Panji Sudatu, and Twan Wregola. The last child was also a daughter named Dewi Rambi.

Ken Angrok was no longer became the akuwu of Tumapel anymore since the county had rebelled to the kingdom of Daha. The people of Tumapel had risen Ken Angrok as the new King, in which the new kingdoms name of Tumapel was changed into Singasari

Ken Angrok became the first king of Singasari with the title of Sri Rajasa Batara Sang Amurwabumi. Ken Angrok finally defeated the kingdom of Daha and became the king of all the land in Java in 1144 Saka (1222 AD).

The Death of Ken Angrok

After Anusapati, Ken Angrok step-son, was grown up, he realized that he had many differences with his father. Anusapati asked to his mother, Ken Dedes, about it. Ken Dedes then explained all to Anusapati, including the death of his real father, Tunggul Ametung, by the kris of Mpu Gandring.

Anusapati asked his mother permission to give him the kris of Mpu Gandring. Ken Dedes then handed over the kris to Anusapati. In his room, Anusapati planned the assassination of the Amurwabumi with his loyal servant, a man from Batil. Anusapati gave his servant the kris of Mpu Gandring to assassinate the Amurwabumi.

In the palace, Ken Angrok, the Amurwabumi, was having a dinner when the man from Batil arrived, and stabbed him with the kris of Mpu Gandring. The man was managed to escape to see his master, Anusapati with the news of successful assassination.

The man from Batil handed the bloody kris of Mpu Gandring to Anusapati. Without any hesitation, Anusapati then killed his servant with the bloody kris.

Ken Angrok, the Sri Rajasa Batara Sang Amurwabumi died in 1168 Saka (1247 AD). The people of Singasari built a temple in Kagenengan to honour Ken Angrok.

The Ended of Mpu Gandrings Curse

The last used of the kris of Mpu Gandring was for the assassination of Anusapati by his step-brother Panji Tohjaya after becoming the second king of Singasari. Anusapati crowned as the king of Singasari in 1170 Saka (1249 AD). Anusapati died in Panji Tohjayas hand, also stabbed using the kris of Mpu Gandring in 1171 Saka (1250 AD). It was the last seen and written about the use of the kris of Mpu Gandring.

The curse of Mpu Gandring on Ken Angroks descendants ended after the assassination of Anusapati by his step-brother Panji Tohjaya. Because Panji Tohjaya died by a spear in the anarchy in Lumbangkatang in 1172 Saka (1251 AD).

So, the kris of Mpu Gandring only killed Mpu Gandring himself, Tunggul Ametung, Kebo Ijo, Ken Angrok, Anusapatis servant (a man from Batil), and Anusapati himself.

The Imperial Gold of Maca

Maca

Maca, or known botanically as Lepidium meyenii Walp., is native to the Junin plateau highlands of Peru and Bolivia. The botanical name of Lepidium meyenii Walp. was named after Gerhard Walpers, who described the species in 1843.

In the 90s, Dr. Gloria Chacon described different species which was named Lepidium peruvianum Chacon. Both of L. meyenii and L. peruvianum are referred to the same plant, and the same species. There are no difference between macas ecotypes, colors and shapes. Maca varieties are identical genetically and biochemically.

Scientific Studies on Medicinal Use of Maca

Since Dr. Gloria Chacon had given the new botanic name for maca as Lepidium peruvianum Chacon, an increasing interest in maca has been observed by many scientist around the world. From 2001 to 2010, the export of maca from Peru has increased from USD 1,415,000 to USD 6,170,000.

Experimental scientific evidence had shown that maca has nutritional, energizer, and fertility enhancer properties. Maca is also useful to treat osteoporosis, protects skin against UV radiation, and has anti-stress activity. Clinical trials had shown the efficacy of maca to treat sexual dysfunctions by increasing sperm count and motility. Maca is potential as an adaptogen and a nutraceutical in the prevention of several diseases. (Gonzales GF. 2012)

Maca as Fertility Enhancer

Maca is grown as a food crop, and medicinal purposes, in the central of Andes Mountains, between 8,000 to 14,500 feet above sea level. Maca has been traditionally used by native Peruvians, since before the time of the Incas, to enhance fertility in humans and animals. Maca is also believed to be useful for alleviating menopausal symptoms, correcting hormonal imbalances, increasing libido, increasing energy, and nutrition.

In the study using adult female mice, which treated with extract of yellow maca, had confirmed for the first time, the traditional uses of maca to enhance female fertility. The treatment had also shown, the increasing of the uterine weight, in ovariectomized (surgical removal of the ovary) animals. (Ruiz-Luna AC, et al. 2005) In another study to evaluate the effect of ethanol extract of maca, on postmenopausal osteoporosis in ovariectomized rats, had shown that maca was effective in the prevention of estrogen deficient bone loss. (Zhang Y, et al. 2006)

In March 2010, I once joined an MLM company which is also sold maca based product.. Maca Mx, the main product of PT. BOS (BAE Orbit Senusantara), formerly known as BAE (Bio Activated Energy) which based in Malaysia, consists the ingredients of oligosaccharide, maltodextrin, Psyllium husk, sodium bicarbonat, Lepidium peruvianum Chacon (maca), Tribulus terresteris, green tea extract, spinach powder, celery powder, and Spirulina.

Since the first time I joined with BAE, I had been sold using three kinds of Maca Mx packaging. The different was on the level of bio energy of the products. Bio energy? That was the main reason I joined an MLM with BAE in which I never joined with another MLM company before.

I used to promote the BAE products to some paranormals on alternative medication, in order to show them the bio energy of the products. I guess all food supplements which are sold by any MLM companies, are good and amazing products. But, if you have sixth sense, you will amaze with BAE products! Moreover, you do not have consume the products in order to gain benefit from it. You will also gain the bio energy only by being near the person who consumed the products.

Many maca based products are sold as food supplements, in the internet nowadays. Below are two maca based products from many maca based products which are sold on Amazon.com:

Iron in the human body has a very important function, that is why we are advised to consume foods high in iron. Iron has the function to transport oxygen from the lungs to the tissues and transports electrons in the process of energy generation in the cell. To transport oxygen, iron must join the protein to form hemoglobin in red blood cells and myoglobin in muscle fiber. When joined with the proteins in the cell to form iron enzymes that play a role in the formation of energy in cells.

Iron deficiency causes inhibition of hemoglobin in the blood supply. Disease due to lack of hemoglobin (red blood cells) is called anemia. The symptoms are characterized by less passionate, tiredness and weakness, pallor and dizziness. To determine the daily requirement of iron, you can read in the following table taken from iom.edu.

I Named My Son in Honour of St Michael

My son Michael was born a month earlier than it was expected. My wife didnt notice that she have been pregnant for four month age until doctor examined. All pregnancy test-pack was negative for the last three month. Valentine was supposed became the name behind Michaels name, due to the birth date prediction was on February 14.

But on Saturday night, January 19, 2008, I was accompanied my wife to doctor. The doctor said that my wife will beared her child in about 2 until 3 days from that day. Thats a shocked news.

One thing makes me shocked, is that if Michael was born on Monday, it means his Javanese day of birth (weton) is Senin Pon, just like his mother. Because if Michael was born on Sunday starting at 6.00 pm (sunset) until Mondays sunset, means his weton is still Senin Pon.

In the Javanese culture, if weton of a child is the same with their parents, then the child must perform a ritual. The ritual is to get rid of the child, which then will be discovered and owned by their parentss relative. Their parents had to buy back their child from their relative. How much money to buy back the child is only symbolically.

Why should there be a ritual like this?

There were such cases around me that were illogical. If weton of a child and a mother alike. Then the mother and child must have the same character and habits. In their future life, they would like two repelling, same magnetic poles. Which will result in a natural process, whos strong, he/she will live longer.

In the case with some couple, if their both have the same weton, they will never be united. If it can, their marriage will not be long, a short-lived marriage.

An obvious example around me is my uncle died when my cousin was two years old. My cousin and my uncle/his father has the same weton. My wifes sister with her first child has the same weton, my wifes sister died while giving birth to her second child. My sister-in-law died at the age of 28.

Surprisingly my sister-in-laws weton is the same like her mother, who apparently died six years earlier. I did not get to know with my mother-in-law. When I met my wife, she was an orphan, her mother has past already.

Why I named my son Michael?

First of all, it was based on my favourite football player Michael Owen, NBA legend Michael Jordan, and my ace idol Michael Chang. But their first name was not the basic reason. Im a Roman Catholic in religion, so my son must have his first name after a Saints name. I choose St. Michaels name, which also it was my elementary schools name.

Long before the USG reports that predict my second child will be a boy, I also prepare the name Michele for a girl. I wanted my second child to be my guardian angel for the family. Surely, he will become my guardian angel, due to his sister was name Marianne, derived from St. Mary and her mother St. Anna combined together. There are no St. Marianne in Catholic literature for Saint. Because also the name Anne is given in honour of my late mother-in-law, Ani.

Do you agree, if I say that St. Michael is Our Lord Jesus Christ?

St. Michael by Guido Reni(Guido Renis painting in Santa Maria della Concezione, Rome, 1636 is also reproduced in mosaic at the St. Michael Altar in St. Peters Basilica, in the Vatican.)

Michael means "Who is like God?". But for me, Michael is God Him-self, although human are created by God based on His image. Father is God, Son is Jesus Christ, and Michael is the Holy Spirit. Only Michael is called an archangel in the Bible.

The original meaning of the name Michael gave rise to the Latin phrase, Quis ut Deus?, which can be seen on his artistic portrayals when he rhetorically and scornfully asks, Who is like God?, as he defeats Satan. Within the hierarchy of the angels, at the highest level, St. Michael is a princely seraph.

The word archangel comes from the Greek words arche (prince) and angelos (messenger). The prophet Daniel (12: 1) called him "Michael the great prince who shall rise at the time of the end."

The question is, who will become the judge on the Judgement Day? God? Jesus Christ?, or Michael? Because the archangel who heralds the second coming of Jesus Christ is not named.

The Benefits of Juicers

Though I recommend blenders for starting out in raw food because it is easier and more convenient, virtually all long-term, serious raw foodists use juicers as well. As your diet becomes more and more raw-food based, you will need more and more sources of densely packed nutrition because your body will start to assimilate more nutrition from a smaller volume of food. To support this you need to periodically enjoy fresh raw juices both just for fun as well as for the occasional cleanse or detox.
Fresh juices are the fastest shortcut to dense, easily absorbed nutrition. Fresh, raw juice gives you all the nutrients without requiring work by the digestive system, ideal for cleanses or detox as well as for people who have digestion problems and who need to heal themselves before they can properly absorb nutrients from raw foods. Though the fiber in smoothies helps “sweep” the colon, juice is also a great way to cleanse other systems in your body while giving the digestive system a rest.

Juice is ideal for cleansing, detoxifying and healing. I have seen numerous people heal all kinds of chronic health problems by following a supervised juice fast or juice feast. The idea is to drink only fresh, organic raw juice for a period of time, allowing your digestive system to take a break while your excretory system can work on deeper detoxifying.  When your body is eating cooked food you are consuming toxins faster than you can eliminate them so they build up in your tissues, eventually causing health problems and disease. But if you stop consuming new toxins and let your digestive system rest, your excretory or elimination systems no longer have to deal with incoming toxins and start working on eliminating older, built-up toxins in your tissues.

Juice vegetables but consume fruits whole or avoid them altogether. Fruits need all their original fiber in order to slow down the absorption of sugar in your blood. Most vegetables contain less sugar and therefore don’t need as much fiber to slow down absorption (with the exception of carrots and beets).

Juicing gives you a quick burst of energy since it takes so little time for your body to absorb the dense nutrition in juice.
Whenever you are juicing for more than a day it is a good idea to help your system detoxify all the toxins your excretory system will be flushing from your body. For that, always drink plenty of pure water. Also, since there is little or nothing passing through a major excretory organ – the colon – you should help flush the toxins that are usually removed by the colon using enemas or colonics.

Cleaning a juicer is a bit more work than cleaning a blender. Personally, I don’t think the time difference is significant – a matter of a handful of minutes.

Juices are less satisfying than smoothies. With a smoothie you can feel like you just had a regular meal afterwards. After a juice, since there is no fiber, you usually don’t feel as satisfied. However, that feeling of satisfaction is a bit of “programming” based on old habits – not on what your body actually needs nutritionally. I have found that I quickly get used to juicing even during a juice fast. When fasting I always drink plenty of water, which helps make me feel more satisfied (of course, I drink high pH alkaline mineral water from my water ionizer). I also carry a thermos filled with fresh juice that I can sip on throughout the day during fasts just in case I do getting a little overwhelmed by hunger.

A juicer lets you juice almost anything. You might never put beets, carrots or ginger in one of your smoothies, but you can juice them easily. Dark leafy green like kale are easier to drink in juice, but even in a green smoothie you can only add one or two large leaves of kale without messing up the taste.rawfoodlife

Most of career women who gave birth, only got a small leave of absence for a maximum of 1-3 months. With 1-3 months on leave, they often not used it optimally. Most of them were too lazy to breastfeed their babies. A baby blues syndrom often infected on a lazy mother.

They choose practical way by giving their children a cow or soya formula milk, and hired a nanny. Though the period of leave should be utilized by breastfeeding, and nursing her baby alone.

Why should you suffer carrying your baby for 9 months, if in the end, your child called the nanny as a mother?

Generally, a breastfeeding initiation is started 15 minutes after a baby born. Breastfeeding should be exclusively for 3 to 6 months, because of age 0 to 6 months are infants golden ages. At the age which a babys growth required essential nutrients for its body resistance. All of them contained in all mothers breast milk, not only from babys own mother. If a mother can not breastfeed her own baby due to some reasons, therere no reasons to give their babies a formula milk derived from animals.

Son of man must be fed on a human rather than animal milk.

A baby who consumed breast milk would be more immune to diseases, like pneumonia, diarrhea, and cancer. An exclusive breastfeeding is also proven to suppress an inherited allergy, cause by genetic. Infant allergy is widely occurred in children younger than 2 years, especially under 3 months. For a mother, the benefits of breastfeeding beside to prevent breast cancer are, minimizing the possibility of a mother suffering from diabetes, osteoarthritis, and osteoporosis.

Based on my own experience, my wife gave both my children an exclusive breastfeeding. For my elder daughter, it was until her aged 12 months, but for her younger brother, it was until my son aged 2 years old. Though my wife milk were no longer an exclusive anymore, and also useful for my son nutrients needs. Well, I guess you know why do boys like it most, dont you?

How to Reduce the Negative Impact of Smoking

Smoking is one habit that commonly encountered in everyday life. Men, Women, Old, Young, Poor, Rich, did not escape so addicted to cigarettes. In terms of health, there is no iota of evidence of the benefits of tobacco smoke. But not easy to remove the dependence of this bad habit.

Although most people think of smoking as a habit reasonable, but in fact smoking is not just a habit, because cigarettes contain substances such as nicotine and carbon monoxide that can make people addicted and want to constantly smoking.

Nicotine as an alkaloid has many negative effects, including increased blood pressure and heart rate.

Tips on Reducing the Impact of Cigarette

In several recent studies found an herbal therapy that can reduce the negative effects of nicotine, which is a banana. In this yellow-skinned fruit contained substances that are useful to the body, such as potassium, potassium, vitamin B6 and B12.

Potassium is used by autonomic nerves to control the heart rate, brain function, and other important physiological processes. Potassium is also shown to help lower blood pressure. In addition, these substances also play a major role in the function of nerve and muscle contraction deyut. Besides the advantage of potassium, vitamin B6 and B12 in bananas also have a very big role because it is able to neutralize the negative effects of nicotine in the body.

To benefit from these bananas, we should not take it home. Choose ripe bananas, because younger digested, so the fruit sugar in bananas naturally converted into glucose rapidly into the bloodstream diabsorsi.

Eat some bananas on a regular basis to reduce the negative effects of nicotine in cigarettes. Hopefully useful.

Chemotherapy: The use of potent medications to treat cancer, usually by affecting cells that are rapidly growing, such as the cancer cells themselves.
Cholesterol:An important steroid that is the precursor for the body to make sex hormones, adrenal hormones, and other molecules. A component of all animal fats and oils. It is found in the blood in three forms:
1.      High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) - protects against plaque formation in the arteries (atherosclerosis).
2.      Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) - promotes plaque formation (atherosclerosis).
3.      Very Low Density Lipoprotein (VLDL) - also a plaque promoter.

This style of therapy is intended to eliminate monthly bleeding, but in reality it does not always succeed. It seems to work better for women at least a year or two postmenopause. It may take up to a year for spotting/bleeding to stop. Increasing the progestin dose may help reduce the spotting/bleeding. The undesired spotting and bleeding may result in increased physician visits and testing.

Obesity Negates Glucose Sensitizing Effects of Resistance Training Lifting Works Only For Normal Weight Women

The results of the study at hand clearly suggest: There is no single ideal type of exercise; plus: Whats optimal may change when your health / physique changes

"You got to exercise!" When the average overweight patient hears these words coming out of the mouth of his doctor, the type of exercise he usually will be thinking about is "classic" steady state cardio training on a treadmill, elliptical, stairmaster, or ergometer.

Its the textbook approach and still the predominant form of exercise in most of the pertinent studies on nutrition + exercise interventions that are designed to help overweight / obese individuals shed weight and improve their health.

Among the (usually) non-obese and rarely insulin resistant members of the health and fitness community this type of "cardio training" (LISS) has however gotten quite a bad rep as of late.

More and more trainers suggest that it may bet better to lift weights and do the occasional HIIT sessions for everyone - irrespective of your body weight, health and training status. If we put some faith into the results of a recently published study from the University of Massachusetts this could eventually turn out to be another unwarranted over-generalization that disregards the very specific needs of lean vs. obese and insulin sensitive vs. insulin resistant individuals.

Dont forget you are "evolving": Your journey from fat to fit will not simply change the way you look and feel, it will also have a direct impact on the optimal workout and nutrition regimen for you. Consider it your personal "evolution" that may well start out with a no-carb + endurance approach and "evolve" into a medium-to-high-carb + resistance training approach over the years.

Much contrary to the idea that there must be a perfect way to exercise, Steven K. Malin and his colleagues started out with the hypothesis that
"[...] excess body fat would attenuate the improvement in insulin sensitivity and reduction in glucose-stimulated insulin secretion after acute and chronic resistance exercise" (Malin. 2013)
In other words: The same type of exercise that may be highly beneficial for a lean / normal-weight individual could be absolutely ineffective for his overweight neighbor; and if that were the case, this would at least partly explain why some of the studies in obese individuals suggest that regular strength training would not be a match for the arduous light intensity steady stead training (LISS) approach to fitness.

Despite the fact that the corresponding control group on a LISS regimen was missing in the study at hand, the results Malin et al. present in their soon-to-be-published paper would in fact support just that: As long as you are still fat, weight training may be a good way to maintain lean body mass, but not the appropriate form of exercise to get your blood sugar problems and other health issues under control.

Body fat and pumping iron dont groove

The subjects of the Malins study were 26 young women (21.2±0.7 years) who ere randomized to either a control or intervention group.

Potential explanation of the phenomenon: In the obese the increase in free fatty acids due to the "stressing" (=sympathetic nervous system activity) effects of weight lifting may impair / reverse the exercise induced increase in glucose uptake.
Weights dont work for HDL, either! The beneficial effects of resistance training on HDL are blunted by obesity, too (Nicklas. 1997; study in men).
While the women in the control group had to do nothing but be their lazy sedentary selves, the (un?)lucky girls in the intervention group performed a classic progressive resistance training (PRT) with the following characteristics:
  • fully supervised exercise sessions
  • 3 days/week for 7 weeks
  • workout duration ~60 min/session
  • intensity 60 % 1-RM
  • 3 set of 8-12 repetitions
  • 90-120s rest between sets
  • 5-10 min of stretching before + after
Otherwise the women in the strength training arm of the study were instructed to maintain habitual physical activity and diet habits throughout the study...

... with one exception, though: On the day before the metabolic testing sessions, they were yet advised to consume a standardized mixedmeal diet with 55% carbohydrate, 30% fat, 15% protein.

Figure 1: Changes in glucose metabolism in response to exercise intervention (Malin. 2013)

With the standardized diets, it was thus not possible that the results in figure 1 (no improvement in insulin sensitivity in the obese women with a mean body fat percentage of 48.2%) were corrupted by crazy candy feasts on the day before.

Could "cardio" really be more than just a necessary evil on your way to a physique like this? (learn more)
So is it weight loss before weights, then? While it is true that there are no direct beneficial effects of resistance training on insulin sensitivity in the obese, you would be ill advised to skip it all together.

Lets assume you can train four times a week. In that case you could progress from a 3:1 to a 1:3 endurance-to-resistance-training-ratio as you journey from obese to normal weight and insulin resistant to "normal" (you can also use a 2:1 LISS : HIIT ratio, but keep in mind that HIIT hits the sympathetic CNS, as well).

It is also possible to combine both, cardio and weights - specifically if you belong to the group of trainees who lack minimal strength (you cant do 10 push ups) and endurance (you cannot jog casually for at least 15min).
